Hans Breder, Body/Sculptures, 1969-1973

Some Sunday reflection, courtesy of the late German artist Hans Breder. Breder was a renowned champion of interdisciplinarity in visual art. Over the course of his career, he experimented widely with various combinations of painting, video, sound, technology, science, sculpture, performance art and photography. One of his most famous projects is his early Body/Sculptures series, which merged the latter three media. In each case—as seen here—a nude model interacts with a mirrored surface to create “a connection between space, body, and the fragmentation of form” (in the words of Danziger Gallery), to surreal, illusory effect.
