Jonny Negron, Currents, 2018

Swimming upstream… Kickstarting Monday with this frenetic scene by Jonny Negron, whose paintings depict “comically ripped, pulsating bodies lounging around in damp, torn clothes” — as per our story on the Los Angeles-based artist in Issue 39. “Since I have been working, it’s been really refreshing to see more visibility of diverse body types in fashion, the media and beyond,” Negron told Elephant. “For me, at the core, the figures that I draw are very maternal — it’s a feminist statement.” Purchase a back issue here to see a cross section of Negron’s wonderfully stylised work.
