Lydia Blakeley, TBD Maltese, 2019

Lydia Blakeley’s hyperreal representations of humans and animals alike has seen her turn her attention on everything from racing horses to an array of pedigree pooches. A recent graduate of the MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths, she uses paint to reflect the present, using the medium as a response to popular culture. Through the painting process she attempts to introduce new layers of meaning, develop narratives and present alternative interpretations of our actuality. Her paintings are currently on show at Sunday Art Fair, at the Steve Turner Los Angeles booth. These are playful snapshots of obedient pets with their owners, with just the human hand or foot visible in the frame, at once intensely evocative and suggestive of life lived beyond this compressed moment in time.
