Unknown, Disco Sally at Studio 54, 1978

Friday feels, as encapsulated by the inimitable Sally Lippman, aka “Disco Sally”, who danced away her later years at the fabulous New York nightclub Studio 54. Lippman, a retired attorney, discovered the city’s dance scene in her late seventies following the death of her husband. She soon became a disco regular, garnering adoring fans (including Bill Murray and Dustin Hoffman), and securing a twenty-six-year-old husband, thanks to her warmth, humour and killer moves. This image features in the brilliant 2018 documentary, Studio 54—a must-watch for aficionados of seventies culture and septuagenarian club kids alike.
