Studio Santa: He Visits Just Once a Year, To Artists Devoted, and Those Quite Sincere

Jo Rosenthal returns for another instalment of Studio Santa. This year Studio Santa negotiates with nine artists who know exactly what they want. Words and photography by Jo Rosenthal.

The Holidays are upon us, it’s been another great year,
Studio Santa is back yet again to spread even more cheer!
Would you believe it’s been 365 days since last did appear?
Down the chimney with more gifts, sentiments, and his magical nine reindeer!

But what is on everyone’s wishlist delight?
Something filled with love that shines big and oh so bright?
Still stocked up from years of getting art supplies,
“We want presents, time with friends, and sugarplums,” Everyone cries!

“Our studios overflow, as you very well know,
Santa please bring us candy canes that would make our hearts grow!”
They hope for gifts that sparkle and gleam,
Little surprises that come straight out of a dream.

Studio Santa hears everyone’s whispers and calls,
Through galleries, lofts, and workshops 20-feet tall.
With stars in his eyes and his list held so tight,
He seeks to bring joy and wonder on one festive night.

But what is it that everyone so dearly wants?
Markers, pens and notebooks or something to flaunt?
For Rick, pants and bedsheets and a big hug from mom,
He wants thick alpaca socks to wear all winter long!

Manoil desires a lot more time with his friends,
For Santa to bring back days when fun never ends!
For Julia a wish that all her dreams take flight,
Not tools or paints, but something else even more bright.
Treats for her cats Buttermilk and Sesame,
A field for them to frolic and prance about with glee.

Emerson hopes for more moments that make his heart sing,
The gift of free movie tickets, a most lovely thing.
Not cameras nor clothing, not ink and not games,
But the spark of the theater to light his creative flame.

Toniann asked for something to put atop her new tree,
A gift for her boyfriend to add to the jubilee!
Lauren asked for more lipstick so her collection can grow,
And something for Matteo, her nephew,
His second Christmas ever, please make it a show!

Oh Santa, dear Santa, bring David to NYC
So he can visit his friends to dance and party.
Bring William a lot more time off from work,
Send him on a sunny trip and give him all the perks!

Studio Santa, your work shines bright like gold,
A tale full of magic, eternally told.
From Cincinnati, Sara makes does her plea,
“Just peppermint patties, if you please, times three!”
And last, but not least, don’t forget about Sef
He’s everyone’s favorite, better than the elf on the shelf.

Through the night, Studio Santa rides with his sleigh in flight,
Spreading the magic and making everything right.
But take note my friends: he visits just once a year,
To artists devoted, and those quite sincere.

He watches your hands, your heart and your art,
And cherishes the fire you carry deep in your heart.

Always remember be the best neighbor and friend,
Donate your time, care and love and never let it end.
For all those with good hearts Studio Santa’s lessons are told.
Keep the holiday spirit within you and you’ll never grow old.
