Tomorrow, Aperture’s annual Summer Open exhibition begins, bringing together the work of twenty-three artists whose work explores the diversity of urban experience today. Delirious Cities is the title of this year’s open-submission exhibition, which is organized by Aperture magazine. This image is by Adam Pape, whose inky, black and white photographs capture activity in New York parks after dark. These images reveal friendships, intimacy and warmth, within a space that we typically associate with menace and threat once the sun goes down. “I was trying to generate this view of New York at night that wasn’t so dire,” the artist told Dazed earlier this year, “but instead was one that was filled with a fantastical atmosphere and humour.”
