AFGH, Lake Rotsee Refuge, 2013

We’re big fans of this Jenga-block-like building designed by Swiss architectural practice AFGH, situated on the picturesque banks of Lake Rotsee in Lucerne, Switzerland. The three-storey wooden structure hovers over the water, supported by a concrete foundation-slash-walkway and casting a sublimely symmetrical reflection on the surface below. It is only used once a year, during a three-week stint of summer rowing regattas, but draws a lot of attention all year round courtesy of its strikingly sculptural appearance.
