Known for his capacity to breathe new life into public buildings and spaces with his colourful murals, Italian-born, Berlin-based artist Agostino Iacurci proved just the man for this commission: decorating one wall of the Porta Nuova, an ancient city gate in the small town of Aielli in Italy. Titled Cardi, meaning thistle in Hungarian, the decorative artwork depicts a number of the prickly plants that populate the area, and adopts the same blue and red colour combination as the traditional wool blankets of the Abruzzo region.
