Alex Prager, Afternoon, 2021

Friday free fall, courtesy of US photographer Alex Prager. This suspended image forms part of Prager’s latest body of work The Mountain, currently on display at Lehmann Maupin. “I wanted to make something that mirrored the rollercoaster of emotions that I’d been on,” Prager says of her subjects, all of whom, as Claire Maries Healey notes in a new article for Elephant, “wheel through the sky on a mythical mountaintop” throughout the series. A sensation we can all relate to, the image-maker describes the works as embodying “the feeling of being in this limbo, this purgatory, where I did not know what the future held for me”.
