Is a home a sanctuary? This question is being asked at the Children’s Museum of the Arts in New York—in a show that explores the moment at which shelters built to shield us from the outside world began to offer more than simply practical protection. “The idea of home moves beyond the concept of a place to live or a place of shelter, and connects to ideas of identity, safety, one’s place in the world, as well as a foundation for a lifetime, and a place to leave… and possibly return to,” says the museum. Included in the show are Emilie Clark, Tom Fruin, Todd Hido, Lucia Hierro, Ann Toebbe, Shinique Smith and Letha Wilson.
