Antti Lovag, Pierre Cardin’s Palais Bulles, 1975-1989

Circular serenity, courtesy of a pastel pink boudoir in Pierre Cardin’s curvaceous Palais Bulles (or Bubble Palace) in Cannes. The sprawling, cave-inspired structure was designed by the outré Hungarian architect Antti Lovag, and comprises twenty-eight round rooms, each protruding like a bubble on the building’s concrete facade. In almost every sense, the construction and its decor are an ode to the globular, from the spherical swimming pool to the oval skylights, from the rotund beds and seating to the organic sculptures that adorn it.
