On this day ninety years ago, Mickey Mouse debuted in the cartoon Steamboat Willie in Colony Theatre, New York. Walt Disney co-directed the short film with Ub Iwerks, the principal animator for Disney’s initial shorts. The “lovable rogue” turned “nice guy hero” was voiced by Disney himself for eighteen years. This limited edition print is by Ben Allen, one of many artists—including Warhol and Hirst—who have used Mickey as their muse since his creation.
