Berndnaut Smilde, Nimbus II, 2012

Bringing the outdoors in… Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde uses smoke and water vapour to create fleeting indoor cloud sculptures for his ongoing project, Nimbus. Each cloud lasts between five and ten seconds, and is captured on camera by the artist for posterity. His settings vary—from elaborately decorated museums and gloomy gothic churches to this pared-back space in the Hotel Maria Kapel in Hoorn—but the effect is always magical.
