Sunday scrubbing… The Malawi-born, Johannesburg-based artist Billie Zangewa makes awe-inspiring tapestries, depicting what she terms “vibrant urban landscapes, autobiographical scenes, and portraits”. Using finely appliquéd silk and cotton, she painstakingly elevates mundane moments from her everyday life—be it taking a shower with a lover, reading a magazine or lounging in the kitchen—to something truly special, demonstrating her command of colour and texture along the way.
