Happy 2021! For anyone lamenting the lack of fireworks this year, here’s a photograph of the fabulous pyrotechnic performance by Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang, which took place in the Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence in November of 2018. The display marked the opening of the artist’s solo exhibition at the Uffizi and comprised nearly fifty thousand fireworks, their colours and shapes inspired by Botticelli’s Primavera (one of the Uffizi’s most famous works). What a sight that must have been to behold!
