Namoda’s delicately coloured works “transfigure the cultural mythologies and historical narratives of life in post-colonial Africa, particularly those of [her] native Mozambique,” explains her gallery, Goodman Gallery. Replete with wonderfully evocative titles—this work is dubbed An Ecstatic Vision at Bar Mundo—Namoda’s paintings are deliberately ambiguous, yet underscored by complex narratives that betray her love of literature, cinema, and the history of art and photography.
