Sunday mornings are well spent pottering in the nude, as evidenced in this self-portrait by US-born, UK-based artist Chantal Joffe. Joffe has used her “sensual yet unflinchingly candid” mode of self-portraiture to “trace the path of her own progression from young woman to pregnancy to motherhood” and beyond, wrote Louise Benson in an interview with the painter for Elephant Issue 35. For Joffe, this mode of self-reflection has become increasingly important. “The older you get the more fascinating looking at yourself becomes,” she told Benson. “Documenting ageing is brilliant; the change in your own self is gripping and rich because you don’t have to worry about your own feelings.” Purchase Issue 35 to read on.
