Charlotte Perriand, Bookshelves for La Maison de la Tunisie, 1952

Beautiful bookshelves by the trailblazing French designer Charlotte Perriand. These were made for the student rooms of La Maison de la Tunisie at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, a college founded in the wake of World War Two with the aim of “promoting exchanges between students, academics and artists from around the world”. Rendered in lacquered aluminium and solid pine, these artful shelving units demonstrate Perriand’s masterfully modern approach to furniture, and her belief that good design should be available to everyone.
