Chuck Peters, Cloudome, 2004

This rotund country hideout is the handiwork of American artist and architect Chuck Peters, who opted to join the ranks of monolithic dome homeowners after losing his former house to a fire. He attended a one-week masterclass in the construction of these insulated, reinforced concrete structures at the Monolithic Dome Institute in Texas before returning to his native Georgia and setting to work. A custom-made inflatable airform serves as the home’s shell, while Peters crafted its siding from local white oak timber, before adding salvaged windows and doors. A set of complementary animals and a reflective pond complete the picture of rural bliss.
