Condo, a unique international network of galleries who play host to one another once a year, was created in response to the cut-throat art fair model—one that increasingly squeezes smaller, independent galleries. Condo acts as an exchange programme of sorts, whereby host galleries in London offer up their valued space to partner galleries from around the world. Started in the British capital by Vanesa Carlos of Carlos/Ishikawa gallery in 2014, the model has caught on, with further iterations spreading everywhere from Shanghai to Sao Paulo. Highlights of this year’s London edition, which opens this weekend, include Matthew Brown Gallery (Los Angeles) at Pilar Corrias, Lulu (Mexico City) at Sunday Painter and Edouard Malingue (Hong Kong and Shanghai) at Sadie Coles.
