Is it summer yet? Maybe, maybe not; but things certainly feel a little more carefree with this hilarious image of a man in a seaside rock-striped jacket, perfectly positioned to appear as though he has a massive golf ball on his head. Our cheery bouffanted chap was photographed at Butlins in Minehead in 1979 by Dafydd Jones, and you can almost hear a faint “hi-de-hi!” just from looking at it. The image is one of a series going on show at Turner Contemporary from today for the exhibition Seaside: Photographed, which runs until 8 September. The exhibition presents British coastal images from a number of photographers including Henri Cartier Bresson, Vanley Burke, Susan Hiller, Martin Parr and Ingrid Pollard, spanning the 1850s to the present.
