David Heald, Director of Photographic Services and Chief Photographer at the Guggenheim, has been photographing the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed museum in New York, as well as its other international destinations, since 1981. And his images represent some of the most wonderful architectural portraits in existence. Here’s one of his photographs of Frank Gehry’s Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, completed in 1997. Framed by the Spanish city’s traditional domestic architecture, Gehry’s titanium-clad design, with its sprouting, curvaceous forms, looks both otherworldly and somehow perfectly at home, its shape almost mirroring that of the green hillside beyond.
