Following a historic election, one that is set to define a generation, the United Kingdom has woken up with the Conservative Boris Johnson in power. It marks a turning point for the party, enabling them to progress their Brexit deal with the European Union without opposition. It also has great implications for the environment; Greenpeace UK have expressed scepticism at the Conservative’s green policies, and fossil fuel usage has risen in recent years. The election result comes as Greta Thunberg is named Person of the Tear by Time magazine, pointing towards a hopeful future for climate activism even in the face of hostility. This drawing by David Shrigley captures some of the tension and high stakes facing our planet with his characteristic humour, while also highlighting that we as individuals can still make a difference; the personal, after all, is resolutely political.
