Bold, saturated colours are at the heart of work by photographer Derrick Ofosu Boateng. Based in Accra, Ghana, his striking work is all the more remarkable considering for one that he only took up photography two years ago; and that all his work is shot using his dad’s iPhone. His interest in the medium was spurred by the appreciation his work started to get on Instagram, and he’s since worked on client commissions as well as showing his work in gallery settings. Today sees the opening of one such show as Boateng’s work is featured in Seeing Sounds, a group show from the House of African Art (HAART), which was founded in 2018 by British-Nigerian lawyer Maryam Lawal to showcase work by artists from Africa and the diaspora. The exhibition is up until 7 October at Copeland Gallery in Peckham, South London.
