Power it up! The world’s first and only gallery housed in a working power station has just thrown open its doors. E-WERK Luckenwalde is located in a former brown coal power station south of Berlin, built in 1913 and last functioning during the GDR era; now, it will reopen and feed electricity back into the German National Grid—as well as operating as a centre for contemporary art. Three major new exhibitions launch the space, featuring Lucy Joyce and Nicolas Deshayes, and are installed in direct response to their unique industrial surroundings.
