Elliot Erwitt, The Metropolitan Museum, 1953

Happy International Museum Day! Here’s a little girl captured standing comically alongside a series of Egyptian statues at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York by the French-born American photographer Elliott Erwitt. Now 92, the famously witty documenter of everyday life has taken countless photographs of humans interacting with art over the years. He even released a photo book dedicated to the subject in 1999, titled Museum Watching, in which he explained, “I am a dedicated people watcher who loves to see art and art watchers watching.” What’s your favourite museum to get lost in?
