Eric Owen Moss Architects, The Beehive, 2001

Great shapes, courtesy of Eric Owen Moss. The American deconstructivist architect is perhaps best known for his amazing transformation of the formerly abandoned warehouse section of Culver City in Los Angeles County—of which this building, The Beehive, is a part. Like a hive, the office and conference building is made up of multiple structural layers “with seemingly incoherent shapes and jarring combinations of proportion and materials”, in the words of LA Conservancy. Yet, in an uncanny and artful manner, they all harmonise to “produce a new interpretation of the urban workspace”. And we like the subtle moss-covered steps too.
