This captivating domed structure was once a busy nightclub, dubbed the Woodpecker Discoteca and frequented by guests at the Milano Marittima seaside resort in Italy. It was built by architect Filippo Monti, in the swampy countryside that skirts the coastal town, and opened in 1968 to much success. In the mid-1970s, however, the building was destroyed by an electrical fire that left only its giant fibreglass dome in tact. Today it stands, UFO-like, in the middle of the marshlands.
