Summer obsessions give way to a celebration of all kinds of weather in Frederico Herrero’s new site-specific installation at MCA Chicago, which “dramatically changes with the shifting seasons.” The artist has filled the atrium with huge abstract blocks, both on the walls and across the museum’s windows, creating a mural that serves to immerse visitors in bright, joyous colour, as well as turning views of the city skyline into an ever-changing work of art. Herrero often works in large urban spaces, and sees walls as a mere extension to the canvas, in what he considers to be a never-ending landscape.
