Happy 88th birthday to the one and only Yoko Ono. Here she is in Selfridge’s, accompanied by John Lennon and captured by the Dutch photographer Gijsbert Hanekroot, while promoting the second edition of her 1964 artist’s book Grapefruit. In her This Artwork Changed my Life feature for Elephant and Artsy, zinemaker Nina Mingya Powles considers the impact of Ono’s originally self-published work upon her own artistic journey. “Grapefruit helped me see the book form as flexible, experimental, full of radical possibilities,” she writes. “It helped me see myself as an artist and maker who can move freely between art forms, as Theresa Hak Kyung Cha did, and as Yoko Ono still does.” Read the full feature here.
