Tel Aviv Museum of Art presents a solo exhibition of works by the leading Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto for the first time in Israel. The exhibition focuses on Sugimoto’s iconic photographs, emphasizing his physical and spiritual approach to time. Among the series presented in the exhibition are the Seascapes, the Theaters, the Dioramas, the Portraits (Madame Tussaud’s wax figures), the Architecture, the Colors of Shadow, and the Lightning Fields.
Sugimoto addresses issues concerning history and temporal existence, while exploring topics of time, empiricism and metaphysics. His works allow the viewers to relate to the past, while at the same time reflecting on the boundaries containing the image; whether it is through physical time or “spiritual” time.
