Isamu Noguchi, Moerenuma Park in Hokkaido, 1988-2005

This majestic structure was designed by the late, great Japanese American sculptor and designer, Isamu Noguchi, and forms part of his swan song, Moerenuma Park in Sapporo, Japan. The park is peppered with elegant objects and architecture designed by Noguchi in 1988—the same year he died. It took almost twenty years to complete, but according to visitor reviews was entirely worth the wait. Highlights include a sublimely sculptural playground, a vast glass pyramid and this so-called “music shell”, which is used as a stage for concerts and dance performances.
