MVRDV, The Imprint, South Korea, 2018

This fantastical façade is the handiwork of the Rotterdam-based architecture practice MVRDV. It forms part of The Imprint, “a dual structured entertainment facility [that] sits as the centrepiece of a new tourist hub in Seoul, South Korea,” explains the firm’s website. The brief stated that the buildings—a nightclub and theme park, respectively—should have no windows, so in order to ensure that they blended harmoniously with their surroundings, MVRDV incorporated elements of the adjacent buildings’ façades into their own, playfully warped and exaggerated designs. The result is a truly breathtaking feat of 3-D modelling, and architecture which is just as entertaining as the activities it hosts.
