Néle Azevedo, The Minimum Monument (Melting Men), 2009

Weather-beaten… This collection of fast-melting figures is the work of Brazilian sculptor Néle Azevedo—a temporal reflection on global warming, climate change and species depletion, which took place in Gendarmenmarkt Square in Berlin in 2009. Made up of 1000 seated ice sculptures, the installation was set up at the start of the day and the melting process began shortly thereafter. Needless to say, the figures’ increasingly frail and sinewy appearances made for meaningful and melancholy viewing. (Found via @somethingcurated).
