This beautiful facade belongs to Szenes House in Budapest, a vast residence by the architect István Nagy Jr, a student of Ödön Lechner. A remarkable example of Hungarian Art Nouveau—captured here by photographer Thibaut Mathieu—it was commissioned by its namesake Mór Szenes in 1906. The exquisite, brightly coloured exterior is embellished with a plethora of folk art motifs typical of the art movement, including flowers, garlands and wrought-iron butterflies. The original vision for the interior was just as elaborate, made up of various apartments, a wine cellar, and a casino occupying the entire ground floor.
