Where do we draw the line between the represented and the real? Chilean-Peruvian artist Ivana de Vivanco explores this with comical effect in her work—in her new show at Weserhalle in Berlin she explores a meeting of painting and sculpture, in which the first facial feature to cross from the painted into the three dimensional realm is the nose. The Big Nose: A Matter of Perspective or Perspective Matters opens this Friday. “Hallucinatory, dark, decadently colourful, and utterly compelling, de Vivanco’s characteristically whimsical canvases depict a host of unseemly players in order to reflect the absurdities (and artificialities) of the human-made world,” says the gallery.
