James Bartolacci, Light Touch, 2020

Today, a new exhibition by New York-based painter James Bartolacci arrives at Taymour Grahne Projects in London, bringing with it all the atmosphere of queer nightlife in the Big Apple. Bartolacci’s expressive evocations of after-hours hedonism feature in our new issue, in a story dedicated to intimacy. These snatched moments between clubbers searching for closeness “move beyond what we might expectsex, hedonism, highs,” the accompanying text observes, “to show the sometimes discordant relationship between desire and intimacy in a culture of voyeurism.” Furthermore, they put us right in the heart of the action—the closest we’ve been to a party in months.
