Thursday tranquility… This hypnotic installation was dreamed up by the seminal American artist James Turrell for his 2013 exhibition at the Guggenheim in New York. The show focussed on Turrell’s “groundbreaking explorations of perception, light, colour, and space” and, most prominently, “the role of site specificity in his practice”. Nowhere was this more evident than in his powerful transformation of the Frank Lloyd-Wright building’s famous rotunda, the interior of which he recast as “an enormous volume filled with shifting artificial and natural light”.
