British Indian fashion designer Supriya Lele draws on “a unique combination of influences, from traditional Indian motifs to the figure-hugging miniskirts and boob tubes of noughties club culture,” writes Louise Benson. “I’m trying to show and propose a new interpretation of India,” Lele explains. “It’s about showcasing individual experiences. I’m trying to propose something new, and hoping that people will understand that point of view.” This striking image was taken by British photographer Jamie Hawkesworth and forms part of a series documenting Lele’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection, which was published in a hand-stitched book titled Narmada.
