Tuesday tumbling… This excellent blow-up installation was made by artists Jeffrey Shaw, Theo Botschuijver and Sean Wellesley-Miller for the 1972 Floriade Kind en Leefmilieu festival, a horticultural exhibition that takes place in the Netherlands once every ten years. “The Aqua-Airground was a large air-inflated cushion partially filled with water, which passersby could play on,” Shaw said of the fabulously inviting inflatable. “It combined the tactile experiences of both air and water, and the splashing water inside this structure also gave the work a unique acoustic quality, similar to that of a swimming pool.”
