Pro skateboarder Jerry Hsu turns out to have something of an eye for photography, snapping witty, succinct snapshots of people, places, objects and, of course, skate culture. Hsu’s street photography has now been gathered into a book published by Anthology Editions on 21 May, The Beautiful Flower is the World. The book takes its title from a photo of a t-shirt Hsu found and documented—very meta, Hsu—distilling the photographer’s often ironic visual standpoint. Irony or no, we adore this image for the simple pleasure of two cute kids driving about in a cute little pink car. Somehow looking like simply tiny adults out for a drive, there’s something wonderful about the seriousness of our young driver in her pink dress; her travelling companion gazing out, chest bare, surveying the sun drenched highway as if it’s all his own.
