London-based 3D designer Joe Mortell would make a stellar candidate, as evidenced by this sumptuous set-up in a verdant, imaginary garden. Making a strong case for green velvet everything, Mortell’s chic lounging platform offers an elevated take on the 1960s conversation pit, situated as it is at the top of a peppermint-hued spiral staircase, illuminated by a globular lamp. “My work is a mix of art direction, animation and illustration, focusing on set design and surreal scenes,” the designer explains of his imaginative approach, which has been championed by The New York Times, Louis Vuitton and many others.
