A literal take on the headlamp by Australian photographer Johnny Thornton. This surreal scenario was dreamed up in 1978, in collaboration with makeup artist William Norman. “The plinth came from a shoot and I saw the composition as a pastiche of the Art Deco style lamps made by Lalique featuring porcelain heads,” explains Thornton on his gallery’s website. “I decided the head in my version would be a real one. We painted the model’s hair silver and rigged a flashlight into the lampshade.”
