Remember, remember… this evening, fireworks and bonfires will light up the sky in the UK to mark the annual Guy Fawkes Night. One artist who has been experimenting with fireworks of late is Judy Chicago, whose first major UK solo show is set to open at BALTIC in Gateshead on 16 November. The exhibition spans spans five decades of the pioneering feminist artist’s career, and opens in her eightieth birthday year. It includes a selection of photographs from Chicago’s iconic Atmosphere series (1967–2017), which proposes a feminist approach to Land Art. A triptych of photographs from A Purple Poem for Miami (2019), featuring spectacular rainbow fireworks, will be seen for the first time.
