As Katy Hessel, founder of @thegreatwomenartists Instagram account, launches her new book, The Story of Art Without Men, we look back at her compelling 2018 exhibition, In the Company Of, held at London’s TJ Boulting. In it, Hessel brought together the work of three historic female artists—Barbara Hepworth, Lee Miller and Alice Neel—with that of 12 contemporary artists, including Juno Calypso. “The mixture of artists is reflective of Hessel’s approach to her Instagram feed, placing the work of contemporary artists in a broader historical context and upholding the legacy of women who might otherwise disappear from view,” explains Louise Benson in an archive feature for Elephant, which you can keep reading here.
