Kan Yasuda, Myomu (Key to a Dream), 2008

This calming work was crafted by the Japanese sculptor Kan Yasuda, known for his pared-back, softly undulating pieces in white Carrara marble and bronze. For the past forty years, Yasuda has lived and worked in Pietrasanta, Italy, a coastal town at the foothills of the Apuan Alps. His practice is a meditative one, inspired by his natural surroundings. This sculpture, titled Key to a Dream, is shown perfectly framing the verdant grounds of Chatsworth House, where it was displayed as part of a 2008 exhibition at the English stately home.
