A new show at Künstlerhaus in Berlin explores the creative output that sprung from West-Berlin in the 1980s, when the city’s vacant rooms provided space for artistic expression to flourish. This artwork was created in an environment that was “distant from the market and indeed scarcely regulated at all”. Dada-esque performance artist Käthe Be is known for accessorising his head with numerous items—in this case, a burning candle. His 300-member fan club is said to have included Paul Simon and Madonna.
