Keith Haring Painting Grace Jones, 1986

Keith Haring and Grace Jones were introduced by Andy Warhol, who commissioned Haring to decorate Jones’ sculptural body in his signature graffiti (and Robert Mapplethorpe to photograph the spellbinding results) for a spread in Interview magazine in 1984. Haring and Jones would team up again on multiple occasions, notably, for the singer’s must-watch music video I’m Not Perfect in 1986, which saw Haring paint both Jones (as seen here in a cheeky behind-the-scenes shot) and the billowing skirt she donned for the occasion.
