Surely one of the most spectacular hot air balloons ever launched, this remarkable rendering of St. Gallen (one of Switzerland’s most impressive baroque cathedrals) was built to mark the building’s two-hundredth anniversary. It was conceived by the artists Jan Kaeser and Martin Zimmermann and built by Kubicek Balloons, who described it as the most complicated design they’d ever undertaken. The flying cathedral is 31 metres high and 26 metres long, and was flown throughout Switzerland in 2002 as part of the anniversary celebrations—what a sight that must have been!
