Concrete, cubes and primary hues: this playful piece of architecture could only be the work of Swiss-born architecture pioneer Le Corbusier. It’s a section of the High Court in Chandigarh, the Indian city designed almost entirely by the architect, from its many rectangular housing blocks to various administrative buildings. (Fun fact: it’s the only one of Le Corbusier’s town designs ever to be realised). The curvature of the court is intended to produce much-needed shade, while its facade is typically rhythmic, defined by Le Corbusier’s potent use of colour and geometry.
